How Many Photographers?

by Ken Piehl (President of K. A. Piehl & Associates, LLC)
How many photographers does it take to cover a wedding? This might sound like a variation on an old joke, but it’s a question you should put some thought to as you ponder your wedding. Let’s look at the pros and cons of hiring a single or group of photographers.
Many small studios have only one photographer. The advantage to you as a customer is that you’ve (hopefully) been shown examples of that exact person’s work, so you know what he or she is capable of. If you can meet him or her beforehand, you can also judge his/her personality as well.
The biggest disadvantage is that you’re putting all of you eggs into one basket. In addition to the obvious, ‘What if your photographer is sick on the day of your wedding?’ question, there are artistic and logistical concerns as well. Multiple photographers mean more sets of eyes, and more artistic visions, so you get more choice and variety.
Consider the scenario of one photographer busy taking your formal pictures in the church while at the same time, in another room, family members and loved ones are joyfully meeting after years of not seeing one another. Or, how about the view of the back of your dress as you walk down the aisle? Clearly a second photographer is an advantage here, and that's why we use two photographers at Princess Bride Studio.
Your wedding day is a unique and special occasion that can’t easily be repeated. You want every special moment, happy memory and good time with family and friends to be recorded, documented, and saved forever. Think carefully as you make your decision. |
